Arlington County Virginia is an urban county of about 26 square miles, directly across the Potomac River from Washington DC. Each urban village has shopping, restaurants, recreation, offices and homes all within a few blocks of each other. There are 11 villages, and you can discover each here:
- Ballston
- Clarendon
- Columbia Pike
- Court House (the village I gladly call home!)
- Crystal City
- Lee Highway
- Pentagon City
- Shirlington
- Rosslyn (the new home of Nestle)
- Virginia Square
- Westover

Public Transportation in the north and the
south
Arlington has terrific public transportation --you do not need to own a car to get around! In fact, the County created a promotion to discourage owning a personal vehicle that has had some success called the Car Free Diet.
This program offers loads of useful tips and details about traveling around and through Arlington County Virginia.
While both North and South Arlington are served by Arlington County's own ART bus service and Metrobus, only North Arlington has the orange and silver line Metro buried beneath its streets. This is mostly reflected in property values--which is why it may be less costly to buy a home in South Arlington. The dividing line in the County between North and South is Route 50, also called Arlington Boulevard traveling east and west.
